As of iOS 4.3 all iPhones will have the capability to become Personal Hotspots, which means you can connect up to five devices to them via WiFi (and possibly bluetooth) so you can surf the net on your netbook via iPhone. I'm surprised it took this long given that one of the major things fueling the jailbreaking craze was being able to "tether" the iPhone to get internet out of it to a netbook or somesuch. Now all I'm waiting for are the first reports that someone has hacked into an iPhone via the hotspot, then it can join HDTVs as the latest devices to fall pray to what sounded like a good idea. "Expected to drop in March, the OS version will be 8F5148b and the baseband will be 04.08.00. Users will be able to connect up to five devices to the hotspot via Wi-Fi and possibly Bluetooth. Of course, if you don’t have an unlimited (or at least 2GB) data plan, this will surely eat up your data usage allotment quickly." Source: ZDNet |
