More details have surfaced about AMD's chipset that goes along with socket AM3+ and their Bulldozer cpus, all told it looks like a major step up, beating SandyBridge in a few different areas chipset wise, the main area being the amount of PCIe lanes available for GPUs and other things.
Given what I know about the 9xx series AMD chipset, as well as having studied a photo of the AM3+ socket, I believe the following:
1) Bulldozer (AM3+) CPUs will almost certainly not fit socket AM3 motherboards.
2) AM3 CPUs will most likely fit AM3+ motherboards.
3) Bulldozer looks to be a good platform for Crossfire, with two full 16x PCIe slots AND another eight lanes for other componants.
Hopefully the Bulldozer CPUs themselves will live up to expectations, and we can have a Grand CPU Battle again, like back in the early 2000s.
"The FX chipset is as usual the top model and offers full bandwidth for two graphics cards in CrossFire. The chipsets also gain support for IOMMU (Input/Output Memory Management Unit) a function that translates virtual addresses to physical addresses and will be used for demanding I/O virtualization. Exactly how AMD will use it isn't entirely certain though.
If we look to the southbridges it will improve performance between it and the northbridge, while also adding SATA 6.0 Gbps and RAID 0, 1, 10, 5 (5 only in SB950). With full speed over Express 2.0 both storage controller and USB 3.0 circuits will get beter bandwidths to work with, which should improve performance over current solutions."

Wow ... now that was a long ago. Boy! I'm really getting old here ...LOL! Have a guess what processor and how much ram, the original Macintosh computer used.
"It was 27 years ago when Apple unveiled its revolutionary Macintosh computer. Some of its firsts included: introducing a Graphical User Interface to the mainstream user, a mouse, 3.5 floppy drive, cut and paste, and much more. David Morgenstern has a rundown of what is inside."

It's a good read ... head over to Gizmodo to find out how to build a powerful media HTPC for less than $500. But mind you, I reckon I could it for less than $300 ;)
"The web is rich with streaming video, and there's no reason you should limit yourself to enjoying it all on smaller screens. Here's how to roll your own home theater PC and consolidate your media center components to one small, sleek box.
If you're thinking about cutting the cable and ditching your cable or satellite provider in exchange for streaming video services like Hulu and Netflix, video podcasts, and your own video collection, you'll probably need a way to get all of that video from the web to your HDTV with as little fuss as possible."

Thanks to Intel, we've just been landed a sample of their SSD 310 Series with mSTA Interposer card. It's one of the world's smallest SSD on the market, perfect for tablets, embedded and rugged systems. The unit comes with a mSATA Interposer card which allows you to use it as a standard SSD. The model we received has a capacity of 80Gb. Watch out for our indepth review coming soon, but in the mean time ... click on the image to check out the video and photo gallery.

We've just published a review on the Spire Thermax Eclipse II CPU cooler. It features five 8mm Direct Touch U-Shaped heat-pipes combined with black-nickel coated stamped heat-sink fins and dual 120mm fans. It sounds and looks mighty impressive ... let's see how it performs. Here's a snip ....
In this review, we'll be taking a look at the Spire Thermax Eclipse II CPU cooler. This cooler is designed for both AMD (754, 939, AM2+, AM3) and Intel processors (LGA 775, 1156, 1366), and offers decent cooling performance between 130W to 150W Watts. It's equipped with five 8mm Direct Touch U-Shaped heat-pipes combined with black-nickel coated stamped heat-sink fins. The whole heatsink unit is cooled by two large, but quiet 120mm fan which spins at 2,2000 rpm, giving you a maximum air-flow of 93.34CFM. You have the option of mounting both fans ... I prefer just one fan for less noise.

The Thermax Eclipse II comes with anti-vibration rubber fan mounts that allows for easy tool-free installation of the fan. One of the first things that really strike you, are the five 8mm Direct Touch U-Shaped heat-pipes. They really look the business. There's also what appears to be a mini heatsink near the base of the heatsink.

Romanian hardware website Lab501 gets their hands on a Gigabyte H67N-USB3 mini-ITX motherboard. Looking at the photos, the motherboard is virtually identical to Gigabyte's older H55N-USB3 ... but obviously this time, an Intel H67 chipset is used. It supports all Sandy Bridge processors LGA 1155, and comes with 3 video outputs which includes DVI, DisplayPort and 15-pin D-Sub VGA. Hopefully, we'll be getting a sample from Gigabyte soon ...

Nvidia have launched their second generation Fermi GPU in the form of the Geforce GTX 560 Ti. The new GPU comes with 384 CUDA cores running at 1645MHz, 1GB of GDDR5 RAM running at an effective rate of 4GHz, and an 822MHz graphics clock. So far, everyone's raving about it ... purely because its performance is amazing for the $250 price bracket. We'll be getting a sample soon, so watch for our review ... in the mean time check out the coverage on the net. Click on image below.

After a successful run., Synology is expanding its product range ... This one is mighty compact and looks the business. I want one!
"DS411slim is the successor to the DS409slim. Synology is looking to improve upon its DS409slim NAS with the addition of a new model. The popular DS409slim is already known for its small size, 2.5" drive support, 128MB of RAM, and 1.2GHz processor. The new DS411slim retains the 2.5" drive support, but bumps up RAM to 256MB and incorporates a faster 1.6GHz processor.
Even though the processor and memory specs have been improved, power consumption is actually down for the DS411slim -- 9.6W in standby mode and 16.8W when data is being accessed. For comparison, the older DS409slim has power consumption ratings of 12W and 19W respectively."

We've just published a review on the Foxconn P67A-S motherboard. It's one of the most affordable P67 based motherboard available on the market, especially when you consider all the features which Foxconn has included. Here's a snip ...
In this review, we'll be taking a look at the Foxconn P67A-S motherboard. It utilises the Intel P67 chipset, which we all know has been released at the same time to complement perfectly with Intel's new Sandy Bridge processors socket LGA 1155. The motherboard supports dual channel DDR3 channel memory, SATA3, USB 3.0, and dual PCIE x16 slots for Nvidia SLI or CrossfireX multi-GPU configuration.

The Foxconn P67A-S is aimed and targeted at the higher-end of the mainstream market, and comes with some suprising features which are normally found on higher-end enthusiast motherboards. These include solid capacitors, digital PWM, a 2-digit debug diagnostic LEDs, as well as onboard power-on and reset buttons. The motherboard uses a black colored PCB, and there's also a unique looking heatsink that somewhat resembles a shark-fin.
