A few months back, we reviewed the Syllable D900 Mini Wireless Earbuds, Syllable D700-2017 Wireless Sports Earbuds and the Syllable D900S Tip Wireless Earbuds. All of these earbuds offered acceptable audio quality playback at extremely affordable prices. Today, we take a quick look at one of their latest product … the Syllable D9X Battery Plug-In True Wireless Headset.

It features TWS True Wireless technology and Bluetooth V4.2+Edr, which enables the Syllable D9X to provide high quality stereo sound and superb bass.

Unlike the D900 and the D900S, the Syllable D9X is much smaller and more discrete, weighing in at less than 0.5g with a maximum length of only 30mm.

It comes with 4 detachable magnetic batteries, which can be charged via an intelligent charging case that comes with a built-in high capacity Lithium battery, and provides up to 4-6 times charges for continuous use.

The Box and Packaging

The packaging comes complete with carry/travel pouch, USB charging cable, 2 sets of spare ear plugs, the charging case, a total of 4 detachable magnetic batteries and of course the D9X headset (earpiece) itself.

A Closer Look

The Syllable D9X headset (earpiece) are very small, much smaller than I expected. But these won’t work with out the batteries units. When you add the detachable magnetic batteries to them … they look like normal hands-free Bluetooth headsets.

Usage

The Syllable D9X is extremely easy to operate. You just attach the magnetic batteries to the headset (earpiece) units and it automatically power on. To enable paring, just go to the Bluetooth menu on your smartphone and choose the Syllable D9X from the list.

The good thing about the Syllable D9X, is that the separate Left and Right earpieces already come factory-paired to each other. So you only have to make sure the LEFT piece (master unit) is active and paired to the smartphone.

Answer/Receive calls – One click to receive/hang-up. Double click to reject call/redial.

Music Playback – One click to play/pause. Double click for next track, Triple click for previous track.

The Syllable D9X earpieces fit nicely for my ear and are pretty comfortable to wear. Of course, if they are too loose or too tight … then you can change the size of ear plugs. There are 2 spare ear plugs of different sizes that are provided with the package.

Verdict and Conclusion

After using these for a few days, I thought the audio quality was fairly decent during normal operation, like listening to music. There’s no noise cancelling feature, but the voice quality was acceptable when making phone calls.

Although you’re meant to wear both earpieces for normal operation (stereo for left and right), I found it a little awkward … it’s like wearing 2 separate hands-free Bluetooth headsets. It’s similar to Apple’s Airpods. I never really understood the whole concept.

The magnetic plug-in batteries sounds like a great idea. It’s very intuitive and easy to change/replace, but sadly the battery life is a very short. Each battery will give you approximately 2 hours talk time and standby time is a about the same. (4 batteries x 2hrs each = 8hrs in total). I guess that’s why they provide you with 2 more spare batteries.

I do like the charging case. It has 4 slots for for the magnetic batteries. The whole package is small and light-weight which is perfect for travel. What’s more, it’s completely wireless up to a range of 10 meters.
