Verdict and Conclusion
Let’s get straight to the positives. The Corsair RM650x offers rock solid stability on all of the voltages including the +12V, +5V and +3.3V. During full load (CPU and GPU), the +12V rail only dropped -0.096V, that’s less than 0.007% which is totally negligible. What’s pretty impressive also, was the fact that there were no changes at all for both +5V and +3.3V readings.
As far as build quality is concerned, the Corsair RM650x is extremely robust. It’s surprisingly compact and feels solid to the touch. Instead of sharp straight edges like you find on most PSUs, the Corsair RM650x offers 4 contoured edges along the length of the PSU, giving it some nice aesthetics.
What makes the Corsair RM650x stand out is the amount of features it offers. These include the 80 Plus Gold certification, 100% Japanese capacitors, a fully modular cable management system, rifle bearing fan, zero RPM fan mode, and comes with a massive 10 year warranty. Remember this is only a 650W power supply!
The Corsair RM650x offers a large 54A rating on the single +12V rail, which gives you a maximum combined wattage of 648W. So yes … even a 650W PSU is more than enough to handle even the most demanding of CPUs and graphics card, which includes the GeForce GTX 1080Ti. For SLI/Crossfire multi-GPU configurations, a pair of Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 1070 are just about the limit. Although I would recommend a higher wattage power supply.
Like I said before, the Corsair RMx series is aimed at the high-end/enthusiast market, and it’s primarily marketed as one of Corsair’s premium range of PSUs. This will only mean one thing … yup, the RM650x is pricier than other 650W power supplies on the market. However having said that, it does offer a lot more than its competitors. Final Words:
Don’t think for one minute a 650W power supply would offer less quality or stability than its bigger counterparts. The Corsair RM650x retains all the premium features and benefits of its bigger models. It’s ideal for any PC build that requires a solid performing PSU (single graphics card upto ~320W max.)
