Today we’ll be taking a look at the Syllable D300 Bluetooth Wireless Sports Earbuds. Looking at the specs and packaging of the Syllable D300, it’s clear to me that it’s aimed and marketed at the sports and outdoor music enthusiasts. It features an ergonomic anti-slip in-ear grip, that allows for hours of comfortable wear. It comes with wireless Bluetooth 4.1 technology, which offers compatibility with a wide range of mobile devices. A full single change will give you around 4 hours of talk time and up to 120 hours standby.

One thing that intrigued me, was the fact that the Syllable D300 is “sweat-proof” … now I heard of waterproof or splashproof … but “sweat-proof”? Now that’s a new one for me. Nevertheless, I do get it … when you’re on an extreme workout, you’ll be quite surprised with the amount of sweat you can produce. Good thing that these earbuds are “sweat-proof” right ? 🙂

Connecting to your Smartphone

Pairing and connecting the D300 was simple and easy. Just hold the center button (MF button) till the blue and red indicators are flashing alternatively. The D300 should appear in your smartphone’s bluetooth menu. In our case, we’re using an iPhone.

What I found quite odd, was the fact you have to press the home (MF button) for 3 seconds to reject a call!

Conclusion and Verdict

Pros:

• Great price at USD $15.00
• Has all the functions like play, skip, forward, rewind. Volume up/down. Answer, reject and redial calls.
• Decent audio quality with good bass
• Good noise reduction from the ergonomic anti-slip in-ear grip

Cons:

• Quality of the buttons can be better
• Exposed USB charging port (so not sure about sweatproof)
• 4 hours talk time (for me, that’s not long enough)

Final Words.

When it comes to audio quality, the Syllable D300 was surprising good, considering it only costs USD $15.00. It delivered crisp and decent sound with good bass. What I like about it was the attached controller … it offered all the functions like play, skip, forward, rewind. Volume up/down. Answer calls, reject and redial calls. The quality of the buttons on the controller could be better.

The USB charging port is a little exposed. If they had retractable cover for it, that would be good.  4 hours talk time is ok, but not quite long enough for me. It it could last between 6-8 hours talk time… now that would something!

Would I recommend it? Hell, why not? What have you got to lose? … it’s only USD $15.00! Perfect as a gift, or dare I say it now … a Christmas stocking filler 😛
