I'll be honest, I'm no fan of online social games or even the Sims, but I've recently seen quite a few of these types of cases where games will borrow (allegedly) from other major games (and apparently so has Zynga). EA is claiming that Zynga has stolen vital elements from the popular mobile-game Sims Social for their latest release Ville. Zynga owner's are of course denying these allegations and are saying that EA's attack on them is completely misguided; nevertheless, EA will be taking the matter to court and most likely demand a hefty payment in return if Zynga is indeed found guilty of theft. "NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Zynga made a name for itself by developing games for Facebook, but a lawsuit from Electronic Arts accuses the FarmVille maker of acting less than friendly. Zynga's new game The Ville is a "blatant mimicry" of EA's The Sims Social game, EA's suit alleges. EA (EA) filed the copyright infringement suit Friday on behalf of its Maxis Label, which created The Sims Social. "The similarities go well beyond any superficial resemblance," Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw wrote in an EA blog post. "Zynga's design choices, animations, visual arrangements and character motions and actions have been directly lifted from The Sims Social." Source: CNN |
