Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB M.2 PCI-E Gen3x4 512GB SSD. It’s powered by a Realtek SSD controller (Realtek RTS5762), which is fairly new to the scene and comes with a total capacity of 512GB of 3D NAND flash memory. Sticking the usual M.2 2880 form factor, it uses the popular PCI-E Gen3x4 interface for fast data transfer, offering a read speeds of up to 3500Mb/sec, and a write speed of up to 3000Mb/sec. Furthermore, it also comes with SLC caching and DRAM buffer, as well supporting NVMe v1.3. There are two RGB LED strips, which can be found on the to pand bottom edges of the heatspreader, and this is compatible with all of the RGB ecosystems on the market, including Asus AURA sync, Gigabyte Fusion, MSI Mystic Light, and ASRock Polychrome RGB.
For the past few years, I’ve been using a 256GB M.2 PCI-E Gen3x4 SSD as my main boot drive. It was more than enough for me in terms of capacity and speed. [Edit] … Not anymore! Being a content creator, I need a fast primary storage device with enough capacity for all my work. I seriously can’t be wasting precious time moving large files back and forth to my slower secondary hard drives.
And of course, being an avid PC modding enthusiast, I’d want my system to look good too. So the RGB is definitely a great added bonus on the ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G, and what’s more … you get a 5-year warranty too!
Confused and NAND flash memory? Well, there are several types of NAND flash memory used in most of today’s SSDs. The two most popular are SLC and MLC, and now TLC. Here’s a little background taken from Tomsitpro.

Most of the M.2 PCI-E Gen3x4 SSDs I’ve used, come either with a boring looking heatspreader or none at all. So having one with RGB is a must-have if you’re a modding enthusiast like me. Yeah I know it’s just a gimmick … but I love RGB 😛
I’m hoping the ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G 512GB SSD will perform as good as they look. We’ll be using our test rig which is comprised of an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3, Adata XPG Spectrix D60G DDR4-3200MHz 16Gb Kit and a Zotac GeForce RTX 2080. Let’s not waste any more time and continue and check out the specifications on the page.
