We have the Thermaltake Toughram XG RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-4000 CL19 and we will be testing this RAM on a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro motherboard. Now this particular motherboard is on Thermaltakes Support list. Hopefully that means we can set it to XMP and go on. If you start getting into the high MHz on RAM, a number of things can quickly go haywire. Chances are you won’t be able to just install the RAM and set it to XMP and not encounter any issues. This hold very true for a lot of lower end boards and high frequency RAM. Thankfully every manufacturer puts out a support list that you can reference. Overclocking RAM has been a thing for quite some time and still has benefits if you can go from a 2333MHz to a 4000MHz. I have seen a lot of testing results 4000MHz to 5000MHz that does not yield enough of a performance increase to justify the extra strain on your hardware. So in our testing we will be testing the RAM at the XMP speeds. It is how the majority of us are going to be using them and that’s what I am interested in showing you. 4000MHz is really fast RAM. Pair that with a CL19 and we have got a decent combination.
If you are unfamiliar with Toughram let me bring up to speed. Introduced in Early 2020, TOUGHRAM comes in both RGB and non-RGB memory module kits, features high-frequencies and are designed with an exclusive TOUGHRAM software to monitor the real-time temperature, frequency, and performance of RAM modules. Now we have the latest and greatest addition to the Toughram family the XG RGB. We have the pleasure of reviewing several Toughram memory modules so be sure to check those out as well.
