For gamers waiting for the newest installment in the Mafia series, its been a long 6 year wait. 2K and development studio Hangar 13 has announced that the wait is nearly over, with the release of Mafia III on October 7.
Mafia III is set in fictional New Bordeaux (kind of like New Orleans) back in 1968. You play as the main protagonist named as Lincoln Clay, who has just returned from a tour of duty in Vietnam. The Italian Mafia has killed Clay’s closest friends, and you are out to get revenge. You’ll have access to a variety of guns, melee weapons and cars as you make your way to the heart of the mob.
After years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping a criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city’s underworld.
There were also announcements of some pre-order bundles for the game, and anyone who places an order before release will get the “Family Kick-Back” pack, which contains goodies such as 3 vehicles, a machine gun, shotgun and sniper rifle. A deluxe edition will be available for USD$79.99 which includes the game’s Season Pass as well as other post-release downloadable content. The Collector’s Edition includes all the contents of the Deluxe Edition in addition to art prints, an art book and a copy of the game’s soundtrack on vinyl. More details on the contents of the Collector’s Edition are coming soon, but the entire package will cost you USD$149.99.
