Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the ADATA XPG Lancer RGB DDR5-6000 32GB 16GB memory kit. These memory modules supports XMP 3.0 profiles for hassle free and easy overclocking without the need to manually configure the BIOS settings. They are rated to run at a maximum speed of DDR5-6000 MHz at 1.35V, with memory timings of 40-40-40. It also features a built-in Power Management IC (PMIC) that enhances power supply stability, and becasue of its lower operating voltage, it makes these modules more power-efficient than DDR4. And finally for RGB, it supports all the major RGB ecosystems including Asus AURA sync, Gigabyte Fusion, MSI Mystic Light, and ASRock Polychrome RGB.
Currently DDR5 ram is extremely expensive. As of Feb 2022, prices range from USD $400 to $550 for a 32GB kit. And I can confirm, DDR5 is not backward compatible with DDR4, so that means if you want to go the DDR5 route, you’ll have to get yourself a new Z690 motherboard that supports DDR5 ram, along with some expensive DDR5 ram. One thing I’ve noticed when running DDR5 ram on the newer Z690 motherboards, is that it reports the ram as running in Quad Channel mode. For those who don’t know, here’s the explanation why? … DDR5 gives you two 32-bit wide (40-bit wide, with ECC) channels per stick, which means that you get a quad-channel configuration when running two DIMMs.
We’ll be testing the ADATA XPG Lancer RGB DDR5-6000 32GB memory modules on our test rig, which is comprised of an ASRock Z690 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB4 motherboard, along with an Intel Core i9-12900FK processor and a ASRock Radeon RX 6500 XT (4GB GDDR6) graphics card.
I’m expecting some excellent performance, especially at the default speed of DDR5-6000 using XMP profiles 3.0. What will be more interesting, is whether the quad channel mode will improve performance or not?
