The GEIL Polaris RGB memory kit is designed for content creators and gamers, and comes in 3 color choices … Racing Red, Titanium grey, or Glacier White. It uses memory ICs from Micron with on-die error correction, and offer speeds of up to DDR5-5200 with a CAS latency of 34-38-38-78 at 1.25 volts.
It’s one of the lowest latency we’ve seen so far on a DDR5 memory kit. So it’ll be interesting to see how well it can overclock and perform during our tests.
It comes with an exclusive Optimized RGB Illumination Design, that’s compatible with all the major eco-systems out there … including Asus AuraSync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light Sync, and ASRock’s Polychrome Sync.
After several months of keeping an eye on the price of DDR5 ram, there’s no change, it’s still very expensive. As of April 2022, prices range from USD $400 to $550 for a 32GB kit. Another thing to consider is that DDR5 is not backward compatible with DDR4, so this means if you want to go the DDR5 route, you’ll have to get yourself a new Z690 motherboard that supports DDR5 ram, along with some expensive DDR5 ram.

If you plan to use DDR5 ram on a Z690 motherboard, you’ll notice that the ram is running in Quad Channel mode. For those who don’t know … DDR5 gives you two 32-bit wide (40-bit wide, with ECC) channels per stick, which means that you get a quad-channel configuration when running two DIMMs.
We’ll be testing the GEIL Polaris RGB DDR5-5200 32GB memory modules on our test rig, which is comprised of an Gigabyte Z690 AORUS Ultra motherboard, along with an Intel Core i9-12900FK processor and a ASRock Radeon RX 6500 XT (4GB GDDR6) graphics card.
With a default speed of DDR5-5200 using XMP profiles 3.0, I’m expecting some decent performance from these memory kits. But what will be interesting to see, is whether these Micron memory ICs can overclock as well as the SK Hynix memory ICs found on the ADATA and Thermaltake DDR5 memory kits, we tested in the past.
