SFX power supplies are getting better and better over time. Looking at our reviews, I can even say that they are better and more reliable than the most ATX versions. As ususal, manufacturers are focusing on delivering all the best in a small package, as these SFX PSUs are mainly designed for computer enthusiasts and gamers. This is true with Lian Li, who designed the SP850 PSU to be the best option for all those who are building high-power SFF computers. The reviewed PSU combines great specifications with a exciting fresh design and new features, like the PCIe 5.0 connector (16-pin) that we may need for future PC builds.
As usual, we will t with specifications and features while later, I will tell you about the design and efficiency of the Lian Li SP850 PSU.
Let’s begin this review with the key features.
The Lian Li SP850 is a premium-grade fully modular SFX power supply. The 80PLUS Gold power supply is built-to-last with high-quality 100% Japanese electrolytic capacitors, multi-protection (OCP, OVP, SCP, OPP, UVP, OTP), and includes a future-proof PCIe 5 connector for up to 400W delivery. The SP850 also has a Zero RPM Mode until 40% load and gradually increases fan speed only when needed.
80PLUS GOLD and more
The SP850 is rated at 80PLUS GOLD at 91.55% efficiency 115VAC at 50% load, which edges close to the 80PLUS TITANIUM requirement at 92% efficiency 115VAC at 50%.
Premium-grade 100% Japanese Electrolytic Capacitors
Premium-grade 100% Japanese electrolytic capacitors are used to ensure stable power delivery and long-term reliability. The SP850 includes a 5-year warranty.
Zero RPM Mode under 40% Load or After 60°C
A smart and quality design with an improved 92mm hydraulic bearing (HYB) enables the fan to stay at Zero RPM mode and gradually increases speed only when the power unit reaches a 40% load or once the ambient temperature reaches 60°C. The fan reaches up to 2800 RPM at 40.6 dBA (2.5 dBA less from the previous SP750).
1st SFX PSU with PCI-E 5 Connector
The SP850 is the first SFX PSU to include a 12-pin PCIe 5.0 power connector for up to 400W power delivery. Even for SFF case builds, users can now future-proof their systems for future power-hungry graphics cards.
Protection Features
The SP850 includes important protection features: OCP (Over Current Protection), OVP (Over Voltage Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), UVP (Over Voltage Protection), OTP (Over Temperature Protection), and Inrush current limiter for extra safety.
Premium Look
Integrating a brushed aluminum top housing, the SP850 has a sleek, elegant, and modern look, an extension of LIAN LI case exterior designs.
Braided Fully Modular Cables
The SP850 is fully modular to help reduce clutter. The braided cable design also provides an insulating outer layer to the main power cables for a more premium look and feel.
Availability and Price
The SP850 is available in black or white and was launched on September 8, 2022, at the following MSRP: $149.99. It’s not available in stores yet, but you can expect it will be soon. Buy from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3jjHrtd
