On Our Podcast Show this week, Elon Musk and Tesla have perpetrated the ultimate troll on all EV makers in Canada. It’s called per kWh billing for EV charging. Tesla started a two-year lobby to get the Canadian government to authorize providers to bill by the kWh instead of by the minutes. While, on paper, it sounds like a good idea to charge for the amount of electricity instead of by time spent at the charger, it doesn’t work when there are not enough chargers. EVs that require a full hour to charge from 20 to 80% at the only fast charger in town will have drivers looking to Tesla and their multi-stall supercharging sites and their fast turnovers.

How could the government let this happen, and how can anyone believe that limiting access to already scarce non-Tesla fast chargers is a good idea for EV adoption in Canada?
