The HWBOT World Tour 2016 arrives in Taipei, Taiwan on May 31st for Computex 2016, one of the biggest technology events in the world. Competitive overclocking takes center stage with both World Series Asia and World Series for Amateurs contests offering plenty of excitement. Great hardware and cash prizes are up for grabs, plus a chance to appear in the HWBOT World Championship Finals. Today we can reveal more details about contest format and rules.
HWBOT World Tour Asia: Computex 2016 May 31st – June 4th
The primary idea behind the HWBOT World Tour is to raise the exposure of overclocking with PC enthusiasts, gamers and industry leaders around the world. Previous HWBOT World Tour events have centered around major global PC gaming events, however the Asia leg of the tour takes place during Computex 2016, the largest technology trade show and exhibition in the region.
Bringing the HWBOT World Tour to Computex 2016 creates the perfect platform to underline the relevance and importance of overclocking to the PC industry today.
HWBOT World Series Asia: Contest Overview
Extreme Overclockers in possession of a World Tour ticket (see details below) are invited to compete in qualification rounds held daily from Tuesday, May 31st, to Friday June 3rd. The top three scorers on each day will win cash prizes (see below) with the top two entering a daily Face Off to decide who will attend the Semi-Finals on Saturday June 4th.
World Series Asia qualification rounds will center around three benchmarks (see below) and last three hours, commencing each day at 11.30am (with the exception of Tuesday May 31st which will begin at 12:00pm). After each qualification session at 5pm, the two top scoring overclockers will compete in a ‘1v1 Face Off’ on one randomly drawn benchmark. The winner will then be invited to compete in the Semi-Finals on Saturday June 4th. The Semi-Finals and Final will take place on the afternoon of June 4th and also follow a 1v1 Face Off format.

PARTICIPATION
Overclockers are welcome to compete for cash prizes on each day without limitation, however in the case of more than one win, only one place in the Semi-Finals will be awarded.

All 1v1 contests will feature a random draw using the following benchmarks:

Each overclocker has one veto that can be used during the random benchmark draw. The highest ranking overclocker gets first option to veto the first benchmark drawn. If the 1st overclocker declines a veto, the 2nd overclocker will then be given the option to veto. Vetoed benchmarks will result in a redraw (minus the vetoed benchmark). Vetoes can only be used once per Face Off.
HARDWARE
The following Hardware will be provided for the initial qualification rounds:
- PSU
- CPU
- Motherboard
- Memory
- Monitor
- Keyboard / mice
- 1x 500ml thermal flask
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Overclockers will need to bring their own graphics cards for the qualification round. (cards will be provided for 1v1 Face Off rounds).
- Overclockers may bring their own personal motherboard to use in the qualification round. Only retail motherboards with a publically available BIOS are allowed and must be pre-approved by HWBOT staff.
- Only CPUs provided by HWBOT can be used in the World Series Asia contest.
- CPUs will be drawn at random each day and then returned at the end of the day to be redrawn on the following day.
- CPUs and motherboards for the 1v1 Face Off contests will be drawn separately and will come from a different hardware pool.
- All overclockers must exchange their passport to acquire a CPU.
Motherboards for the 1v1 rounds will be provided by HWBOT, with specific brands used on specific days. The following X99 platform motherboards will be used on the following days:
- May 31st: ASRock
- June 1st: MSI
- June 2nd: ASUS
- June 3rd: GIGABYTE
For the Semi-Finals and Finals, overclockers must use the same motherboard that was used in the 1v1 qualification round.
QUALIFICATION ROUND PRIZES:
Each day the top three overclockers will receive the following cash prizes:
- 1st Place: $500 USD
- 2nd Place: $250 USD
- 3rd Place: $125 USD
SEMI-FINALS/FINALS PRIZES:
- 1st Place: Ticket to World Championship Finals + $1,000 USD
- 2nd Place: $500 USD
- 3rd Place: $250 USD

The HWBOT World Series Asia contest is open to participating overclockers in possession of a World Tour ticket. Tickets include unlimited access to LN2 and cost $100 USD (plus booking fee).

World Series for Amateurs
As an important part of nurturing the next generation of overclockers, HWBOT is also giving newcomers a chance to learn the basics of overclocking. All attendees at Computex 2016 will have the chance to learn by attending a basic OC Workshop where seasoned overclockers will teach the basic skills involved in increasing a PC’s performance. Using the XTU benchmark overclockers will then be invited to push their hardware to the maximum, followed by a chance to make a submission in the World Series for Amateurs contest hosted on OC-ESPORTS.
OC Workshops will be conducted in Chinese in the morning sessions and in English in the afternoon. Chinese language OC Workshops will be conducted by Coolaler, one Taiwan’s most seasoned and respected overclockers.

Forty minute Workshop sessions will take place daily from 10:00am – 15:20pm. (Note: Workshop sessions will start at the later time of 12:00pm on May31st). The highest scoring Amateur using the XTU benchmark from each day will be invited to compete in the Amateur Semi-Finals which will be held on the morning of Saturday June 4th.
Semi Finalists will compete on the XTU benchmark in two alternating fifteen minute sessions. Semi-Final winners will then compete in the afternoon using the same format to determine the World Series for Amateurs Champion.
WORLD SERIES FOR AMATEURS: PRIZES
Winners of the World Series for Amateurs will also walk away with some fantastic prizes generously provided by event partners Intel, Seasonic and Streacom.
HOW TO ATTEND THE WORLD SERIES FOR AMATEURS
OC Workshops and the World Series Contest for Amateurs are open to all Computex 2016 attendees and do not require a ticket. Overclocking benchtables, including all necessary hardware, will be provided for use at the HWBOT booth. Only Rookie League overclockers (HWBOT members who signed up less than three months to date) are allowed to participate in the HWBOT World Series Contest for Amateurs.
Note: Although attendance at the HWBOT booth is free, attendees will still need a separate Computex 2016 ticket if they wish to be admitted to the main show floor.
