Today AMD has launched their new 7th Generation APU, alongside the new AM4 platform. This is a huge step moving forward for AMD, as this is their first unified chipset platform but it also brings AMD up to date with DDR4, PCI-Express Generation 3, and USB 3.1 just to name a few features.
The first batch of CPUs available will be based on the older Excavator core. The highest end A12-9800 will feature a base clock of 3.8Ghz and will boost up to 4.2Ghz and will feature R7 graphics that run at up to 1108Mhz and features a TDP of just 65 watts.
AMD has claimed that their initial testing has proved to match the performance of the Intel i5 6500 in some benchmarks, but we will have to wait and see how the performance plays out once the chips are available to reviewers.
Initial launch is only available OEM manufacturers but you can expect AM4 motherboards and 7th Gen APUs to appear on shelves soon.
