The importance of a great mouse pad can be debated but I have a few reasons why you want a good mouse pad for your device. First thing, most mice work very well on about every surface thanks to the advances in lasers and sensors but if you continue to use your mouse on a rough surface you run the risk of wearing out the feet on your mouse prematurely. Those can sometimes be replaced but very rarely does that work out flawlessly. If you want the full DPI out of your mouse, use a mousepad.
