Today, we’ll be taking a look at the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP Edition graphics card with 11GB of GDDR5X ram.
Last year, we reviewed the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 AMP Extreme which, at that time was the world’s fastest GeForce GTX 1080. It was a top performing graphics card, that produced some excellent benchmarks results. And 9 months later, it’s still a very powerful graphics card … more than any average gamer will ever need.
So why did Nvidia release the GTX 1080 Ti so close? Was it a response to the rising threat of AMD’s up and coming Vega? Who knows… but one thing is for sure, the performance of the GTX 1080 Ti is better than the last year’s flagship graphics card … the Nvidia Titan X, which was only launch in July 2016, that’s less than 9 months ago!
To makes things worse, Nvidia decided within 1 month of the GTX 1080 Ti launch … to release the Titan Xp, which is their next flagship graphics card with even better performance over the GTX 1080 Ti.
No wonder people are p155ed off with Nvidia. Imagine you were the guy who bought the GTX 1080 or Titan X nine months ago … only to find out that it’s now essentially obsolete! Any way, rant over. Let’s talk business and see what’s so special the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
For starters, the biggest difference you’ll notice is that it now has 11GB of GDDR5X ram rather than 8GB. Clock rates for both GPU and ram have also increased, along with extra CUDA cores, as well as memory bandwidth upto 11Gbps. This beast of a card requires a minimum recommended power supply of 600W, with a maximum power consumption of 270W. Max temps can reach 91 degrees Celsius.
