Today we’ll be taking a quick look at the MSI GE75 Raider 9SG Gaming Laptop, and this is one of the first laptops we’ve tested with a large 17-inch screen at Funky Kit. The model we received features an Intel Core i7 9750H processor, a GeForce RTX 2080, and 16GB DDR4-2666 ram. It’s very similar to MSI GE65 Raider 9SF in terms of features, but this time the GE75 Raider 9SG comes with a larger 17.3-inch 144Hz IPS panel, and a more powerful GeForce RTX 2080.
This laptop is regarded as a desktop replacement … so what does that mean? Well, in my opinion any laptop that features a large 17.3-inch screen, a high-end processor and a powerful graphics card, such as a GeForce RTX 2080 would qualify as a desktop replacement. With all these high-end features, you’ll need the extra cooling as well as a decent size chassis to house everything in. This will mean a larger footprint and a heavier laptop overall.
The MSI GE75 Raider 9SG measures 397 x 268.5 x 27.5mm in dimension, and weighs a total of 2.66 kg (5.86 lbs). So as you can see, it’s neither compact or light-weight, and you probably don’t want to carry it out too often.
Apart from the high-end Intel Core i7 9750H processor and a GeForce RTX 2080, it also includes 16GB of DDR4-2666 ram, as well a SSD boot drive with 512GB capacity, and a storage drive of 1TB capacity.
As with all MSI GE-series of laptops, it comes with some great features designed for the gaming enthusiasts. such as the per-key RGB gaming keyboard by Steelseries, Killer LAN and Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), 4 giant speakers with sound by Dynaudio.
For cooling, it comes plenty of exhaust vents and features a total of 8 heat pipes cooled by twin fans, to ensure maximum cooling performance during extreme gaming.

I’m glad that the MSI GE75 Raider 9SG features a GeForce RTX 2080 (non Max-Q), which means I should get some decent performance in all of our benchmarks. And although our review model only comes with a 144Hz IPS panel, it’s definitely more than enough for most enthusiast gamers, especially when you have a large 17.3-inch screen.
If all goes well and the laptop produces the results we’re expecting, then this could really mean a viable replacement for your desktop.
