Leisure Suit Larry

Admit it, if you were playing games in the 80s you would’ve also played Leisure Suit Larry. Leisure Suit Larry was an adult themed video game created by Al Lowe and published by developers Sierra. The game revolves around the main character, Larry Laffer, a balding 40 year old, attempting to seduce women to sleep with him. LSL is a 2D text adventure game with the series starring Larry Laffer starting in 1987 to 1996, before newer versions were released in 2004 and 2009, with the Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded released in 2013. In later editions of the series, a much more point and click system was used for game play, and graphics improved with each version that was released.

This was one of the first games I ever purchased for my ‘PC’ back then, an Amstrad 1640DD, which had no hard disk, 640Kb of RAM, 2 x 5.25” floppy drives, and an EGA monitor. If I recall correctly, the 5.25” floppy disks had half the storage capacity as a 3.5” floppy disk, which meant Leisure Suit Larry came on 8 disks for me, and later editions up to 12 disks! All this meant a lot of game time was spent swapping disks around. And this was the system requirement to run the 2nd edition of Leisure Suit Larry (Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love).

Back then I was a huge fan of Sierra adventure games, they released so many good titles back then, with Space Quest and King’s Quest standing out for me. There was even a Kickstarter back in 2012-3 to bring Leisure Suit Larry back!
