Around this time of the year, Hong Kong gets into a frenzy with computer fairs and offers kicking off in nearly every corner of this small region. A few days ago, the Golden Shopping Centre in Sham Shui Po kicked off a week long promotional event whereby most wares on sale would be on discount, and if you are one of those that don’t mind sleeping on the streets for a few days, you could purchase huge flat screen TVs for just HK$1.00!
Across the waters at HKCEC in Wanchai, the annual HKCCF (Hong Kong Computer & Communications Fair) started today for a duration of 4 days. We’ll admit, we didn’t do our homework on this event as it was not publicized as much beforehand.
So with not much preparation apart from charging up my camera batteries, I was sent alone to the event to see just what gems I could uncover. As soon as I stepped in the main hall of HKCEC I knew I was in for a treat!
So I stumbled on eSports Festival 2016, but the eSports scene in Hong Kong isn’t all that big, so just how well could this event go? Then I saw the main sponsors…….
As if Alienware, SanDisk, VIVE, Ubisoft, Sony and Inno3D were not enough, the 2 main sponsors for this event are ROG and Logitech! This part of the venue was split into smaller booths for the likes of Monster (the energy drink), Inno3D, CGA (the organizers of the event), VIVE and Sony, with Logitech’s and ROG’s booth spilling out onto the main floor with all their wares on display.
In the middle, there was a caged area for tournament prelims, and on the main stage was where the action was. At one point there was a Rainbow Six Siege match between a Japanese pro team versus a local semi pro team called InTime. Not hard to figure out the final result of the match, as the Japanese pro team won 4-0……
