I would like to share my experience during my recent visit to Shanghai’s Pacific Digital Plaza (Taipingyang and BaiNiaoHui) computer shopping Mall, near the Xujiahui metro station. It’s one of China’s largest computer shopping malls (at MetroCity complex) with 3-4 floors dedicated to computers, mobile phones, electronics, smartphones, gadgets and much much more.
The Shanghai Metro Map
Here’s a map of the Shanghai metro … with your final destination Xujiahui station circled in red. To get there you need to take the number 9 Blue line on the Shanghai Metro … and get off at Xujiahui metro station Exit 9 or Exit 10.
The Video Footage
Let’s start by showing you a short video …
The Pacific Digital Plaza
There are two parts to the shopping complex. The first part is the Pacific Digital Plaza 1, which is an older building named Taipingyang. This is where you get the pushy and often obnoxious sales person trying to pressure you into buying – old skool style.
As I explained in the video, I only took one photo of the building outside and I was surrounded by a gang of 5-6 people, asking me what was filmed and what photos were taken. They wouldn’t let me go until I showed them that the photo was deleted. Absolutely nuts! I guess it wasn’t the fact I took the photo of the building, but rather they were concerned that their faces being in photo … which were not.
Anyway, I wasn’t detered … so I decided to go to the more friendly and newer Pacific Digital Plaza 2 (MetroCity or BaiNiaoHui – 百脑汇) to do some secretive filming.

All-in-all, I have fixed feelings about my visit to Shanghai’s Xujiahui – Pacific Digital Plaza 1 + 2. Some good, some bad …
The good … well, it’s really easy to get there, and you can visit the other shopping malls nearby. You can pick up a bargin, but I wouldn’t go there to purchase any computer stuff by myself. I recommend to bring a friend with you.
The bad … the Pacific Digital Plaza 1 (Taipingyang building) is a real hardcore, old skool type of place, where you get the pushy and often obnoxious sales person trying to pressure you into buying.
The newer Pacific Digital Plaza 2 (MetroCity or BaiNiaohui – 百脑汇) is a lot more friendly and welcoming. This place I do recommend … it is a lot safer as it’s part of a much larger shopping mall, the MetroCity.

Pacific plaza 1 is a very nice place, I am a Chilean, and I didn’t have any problem there is pressure but it doesn’t matter. You must provide one tenth of the price they charge you, so begins a very theatrical haggling with anger and contempt at the end you get a good price and all laughing. But is only good for components, PC not
