If you have been on the Internet for any amount of time, you probably know how easy it is to get caught up in surfing the web. Oftentimes, this results in you wasting a lot of time. Continue reading to find out some interesting ways to waste time while you surf the web.
Google Hidden Features
You do not need to leave Google’s homepage to find entertainment. Google has a number of hidden features that can help you pass the time away. In Google’s search bar, type “do a barrel roll” (no quotation marks required) The main page will do a 360-degree spin that will leave your head spinning.
Another fun thing to do is to enter a search term and click “I’m feeling lucky”. This will direct Google to take you to the first result. This simple feature has led to numerous “Google bombs” where the search results are booby trapped for comedy. Try typing in “where is Chuck Norris” (with no quotation marks, of course) and click “I’m feeling lucky” for a good laugh.
Games
The internet is packed with so many games and digital nonsense that you could spend your entire life wasting time on the internet. On the World Wide Web, you can draw stickmen, float a chicken across a stream, play a game that is a simple timer that figures out how long you can be bored without doing something else, take a Monty Python quiz and more. The internet is filled with clever things, such as “Can’t You See I’m Busy”, which is a website that disguises games as Word or Excel documents. This will allow you to look like your working when you are doing nothing more than goofing off.
Surveys
The web is full of surveys – not your typical kind though. Sites such as Buzzfeed and others have ushered in an era of fun questionnaires that provide often zany answers. Another fun one to try is Would you Rather a site that takes the playground game and brings it onto the web with some fun twists.
The Onion
This popular website has been around for a long time, but it is still one of the coolest places to hang out on the internet. It has satirical news reports on some of today’s most popular issues. It can keep you laughing your life away.
Social Media
Social media websites are known as time wasters. Whether you are looking at pictures on Instagram, reading tweets on Twitter, checking out what your friends are up to on Facebook or simply Pinning your night away on Pinterest, you can waste an entire day on these types of websites.
Google Earth
Looking at the world around you from a bird’s eye view seems to never get old. Google Earth has been available since June 2005. Street View is another amazing product that Google has introduced. This web-based program allows you to search for an address and view it like you were walking down the street.
As you can see, there are many ways to waste time on the web. We just barely brushed the surface on the types of websites that can cause you to spend hours online without even meaning to do so.
