A Look At New Ways To Have Fun In Your Free Time

Finding new ways to have fun in your free time isn’t always easy. Once you’ve made your way through the movies on your bucket list, finished all the video games and watched all the TV shows online, it’s pretty much time to go to sleep.

And then the next day starts and you do the same thing all over again! But changing it up and trying something new can offer you a fresh perspective on things and even teach you special skills.

Plus, finding something fun and exciting to do that you’ve never done before is the best way to prevent boredom. Instead of playing video games for hours, you could try something like professional video editing or photography.

Give it a go! Check out our list of fun and exciting new ways to have fun in your free time.

Learn how to code

It’s not the first thing your mind probably jumps to when someone says “fun”, but coding creates all the computer software in the world and the way you learn coding can be applied to any other language in the world.

So, whether it’s HTML or Malbolge, learning just one coding language is sure to occupy plenty of your time and leave you navigating your way around the internet in a whole new way.

Take up photography

So much of the world is changing every single day. Thinking about where we all were a year ago and now, it’s like we’re living on a different planet.

Capture the moments that mean something to you with your new hobby – photography! You don’t need a professional camera as the one on your iPhone will work perfectly.

Then go outside and find what interests you. It might be trees, animals or the urban jungle that makes up the city around you. With fewer people walking around, the world really is your oyster to go and explore with your photography.

Edit video professionally

Whether you already know how to edit video on a professional programme or not, diving into the world of graphics and film is one of the most distracting hobbies you could do right now. And who doesn’t need a little distraction every now and then?

Enrolling onto an online course is the easiest it’s ever been as well if you haven’t tried to edit video professionally before. Just by logging onto your laptop, there are hundreds of courses available for you to find – everything from creating special effects from home to editing video for a film.

Learn how to play an instrument

Try dabbling with the guitar or have a toot on a trumpet (but mind the neighbours!) for your next fun activity. Picking up an instrument online has never been easier either, with so many available to order or pick up in-store.

Then sign up to a course online or find a teacher that works remotely. You’ll be smashing out tunes and playing your favourite songs well before the year is out.

Take up digital painting

We’ve all had a go with a paintbrush and canvas at one time in our lives. While some people love it and find it relaxing, others just don’t find it exciting enough.

So, add some flair to those lines and angles with digital painting. By using a computer programme, you’ll be able to choose whatever colour and brush style you like and work your way through loads of scenes and portraits, either from your own imagination or from life.

Join a virtual tour

Missing out on a holiday but still want to take in the sights? Now with museums and art galleries closed, many of the exhibits have been taken online. So, you can peruse through the Louvre in Paris or walk through the ruins in Rome online, led by guides who know every inch of the paintings and monuments on display.

Art, not your thing? No worries, NASA has launched tours of their rover on Mars online as well, so you can view the world around in a whole new way.

Finding new hobbies to keep us occupied is sometimes more work than we want to do, so that’s plenty of things to open your mind and keep your brain active as we try and navigate the new world around us.
