The specialist games tech manufacturer Razer managed to provide CES 2017 with one of the most eye-catching gadgets when they unveiled their Project Valerie prototype.
This incredible three-screened laptop may have initially seemed like a joke, but it quickly became apparent that the sheer amount of attention that it was getting may have given Razer the green light to go ahead with this fascinating device.
Project Valerie comes equipped with many of the same internal features as the gaming laptop behemoth, the Razer Blade Pro. But what makes this prototype all the more incredible is that it comes equipped with no less than three 17” screens that slide out and grant the gamer 4K gaming with a whole new sense of immersion.
Obviously such an ambitious project comes with not only a pretty extravagant price tag, but the laptop is also twice as thick as a standard laptop and weighs a whopping eleven pounds – not that that didn’t stop one daring individual from stealing the prototype from the trade show!
Whilst Razer have always seemed to be a bit of a maverick in the often stale tech world, it’s clear that they are being quick to answer some fairly specific gaming demands.
Many gamers tend to use more than one screen in order to gain quick access to features like maps and player information, and although one reviewer was sceptical about playing Battlefield on Project Valerie, it’s clear that it could have many other interesting uses.
Whilst it could be handy for some of the more immersive battle games, or even for casino gamblers get the feeling they’re in a real casino playing Jack Hammer 2 and two other slots at the same time, it could also provide a solution for graphic designers on the go or for any other creative professionals who looking to make a big impression!
However, in order for this to happen, Razer need to decide on a price tag that isn’t going to scare off its potential audience. Seeing as the company put a $25,000 reward on getting the stolen prototypes back, it indicates just how highly Razer regard Project Valerie, and whatever happens, the three-screened laptop is unlikely to become a mainstream consumer piece of kit.
But whilst the likes of Apple give us new laptops with pretty boring new features like the Touch Bar, it’s nice to see that Razer are once again dazzling the tech world with some inspired gadgets!
