Overwatch
I don’t feel loved. Or I should actually say PS4 users in Hong Kong don’t feel loved.
With Overwatch exploding onto the gaming scene, even when it was still in its beta stages, whenever I’m online I’ve found myself drawn to watch streams of Overwatch gameplay. I can’t really put my finger on why this game appeals to so many people, other than the gameplay is really slick. Graphics-wise, its not pixel sharp stunning, using to use a more Streetfighter cartoony feel. The gameplay itself isn’t something new, and many people have directly compared Overwatch with the much loved Team Fortress.
But boy does it play well. I had a few opportunities at Computex 2016 to get to grips with Overwatch, with all the vendors having featuring the game in one form or another. The different characters in the game have different attributes and gaming styles; from healers , snipers, tanks, damage dealers, setting traps, etc, mixed in with a combination of them, so you will always find one character that suits your style. I started off playing as the Widowmaker, using her long range sniper skills to pick off enemies, but this left me with a taste of not being in the thick of the action, so in the next round I opted for Soldier: 76, with his rapid pulse rifle and rockets, with agility to zip in and out of combat range.
There are times after work I just want to get home and release a little bit of stress shooting things up, and Overwatch seems to tick all the right boxes for me.
Let’s be honest here. Overwatch completely blew over us. It was not on our radar during its beta stages, and the release was just before our trip to Computex 2016, so we were busy preparing for that.
With a decrepit internet connection, purchasing online would probably mean my internet connection would be unusable for a week whilst it downloads. So I decided to purchase a good old disk version, but guess what, its ran out of stock in entire Hong Kong, with no date for restocking.
[UPDATE]
I finally got my copy of Overwatch! Slapped the the disk into my PS4, and got a messaging that its going to take 15 hours to download the latest update….
Charging Batteries
I was stricken with pain in my abdomen earlier in the week, and no matter how much bouncing about or stretching in weird angles, the pain would not subside. I ended up in hospital for the night, 30 hours on a drip with no food or liquids….
I now hate anything that requires charging. That includes my phones and power banks. With having the prospect of spending a night in hospital, Loy and Winston offered to give me their power banks and also run home to get me my 10600mAh one. That should keep my phone juiced up for a good 2 days, I reckoned…….
Nay, my phone lasted until the next afternoon, as each of the power banks had about 10% charge. I could’ve plugged the charging cable in a free USB port on a computer near my hospital bed, but knowing my luck I’d crash the Windows OS on it, killing the old fella in the bed next to mine.
See, I’ve never really liked charging things up; I always forgot to have charged them, and when I do need to use them, I get a minutes of power. I used to have a set of wireless stereo headphones which I use in the middle of the night to watch TV, and they only lasted a few weeks as when it was on low power, it didn’t cut off the sound, but blasted static noise in my ears. Watching a horror movie in the middle of the night never gave me so many jumps.
And then there’s my camera batteries. After years of training myself, I’ve finally gotten round to charge them, but I have so many different types of cameras now there’s always always one I forget to charge. I’ve given up on using bluetooth headsets, none has ever reached its third charge.
What I really want are ‘wireless charging rooms’, ones which I can step in and it remotely charges every electrical device on me.
