There’s nothing like starting the Patriot suite at the Grand Hyatt, Taipei than with something RGB. First off Patriot showed us the new Viper RGB DRAM and the RGB lighting is compatible with software from all major makers of motherboards, including the ASUS Aura Sync, the ASRock Polychrome Sync, the GIGABYTE RGB Fusion, and the MSI Mystic Light Sync. These new memory will be kitted out with brand-new aluminum heat spreaders, available in black or white.
The initial lineup of Viper RGB DDR4 kits will include moderate to high-speed speed bins that will top at DDR4-4133 at 1.40V, and will be the highest-end modules in Patriot’s lineup both in terms of performance and style.
Patriot was then keen to show us their latest gaming keyboard, the Viper V765 RGB Gaming Keyboard. Like a lot of other gaming keyboard manufactures this year, Patriot has tried to add more style to their gaming keyboards, with the V765 sporting a brushed aluminium finish and a removable magnetic wrist-rest. They were also very keen to point out that this is the first keyboard on the market using the very clicky Cherry MX white switches, and the best feature for me is that the V765 is dust and water resistant.
Pairing with the new Viper V765 keyboard is the Viper V550 RGB optical gaming mouse. Patriot has decided to take the step back to using an optical mouse for the precision they give whilst gaming. Other features include fully RGB and 5 programmable buttons, expect this to be available in Q3.
Next we move in storage territory. On the left we have the Viper 2.5″ SSD which would include capacities up to 2TB and is based on the new Phison S12 controller which will be compatible with all of the latest memory configurations including 3D TLC and QLC memory, the latter of which is sure to benefit low pricing and higher capacities.
On the right we have Patriot Viper M.2 which is going to released out on the market before the Viper 2.5″ SSD. It contains the Phison PS5012-E12 8-channel NVMe SSD controller with speeds of 3.4GB/s read and 3GB/s write, along with read and write IOPS of 600K, that’s blisteringly fast! Capacities will initially range from 256GB to 1TB and we are hoping this will out in Q3.
And for those inclined to carry your data around with you, Patriot then showed us the EVLVR – a an external SSD with a Thunderbolt 3 interface. Storage capacities of the Patriot EVLVR comes in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB and will provide up to 1.5GB/s sequential read speed as well as up to 1GB/s sequential write speed.
Measuring just 85mmx40mm, the EVLVR comes in a metallic casing with rounded edges, a LED indicator and a Thunderbolt connector. The enclosure packs an SSD based on the NVMe 1.2-compliant Phison PS5008-E8 controller with a PCIe 3.0 x2 interface as well as Toshiba’s 256 Gb BiCS3 3D TLC NAND memory.
