A few quick mods
I’ve got a big online order arriving at the end of next week, full of all the little tweaks I have for this project. In the meantime, I went out and purchased a few little things so that I can play with them inside the Elite 110.
I bought 2 sets of these 1m USB RGB LED strips for HK$35 each, bargain! What I didn’t like about these LED strips is the relatively massive power switch.
So out came the wire strippers and insulating tape, and now they are power button free!
I’m thinking of ways to reduce the number and size of connectors in the tiny Elite 110 (see below with USB PCI backplate). The 4 pin connector on the LED strips are male, and the Corsair HD120 hub is also male. I’ve bought some 4 pin connector (wish me luck) and some single pin female to female cables just in case…..
As with nearly all LED strips out in the market, I can cut these strips down to size and I plan to have one strip running along the top of the left hand side of the frame (next to the pump), and another running along the right hand side of the frame (under the L shaped window).
Another little piece of equipment I bought is a PCI bracket that has 4 USB ports which connect directly to the motherboard, I just hope the mini-ITX motherboard I end up with has enough USB 2.0 headers…..
The whole bracket itself is quite big, and will be difficult to hide inside the case, I plan to mount vertically on the left side of the radiator so it is out of view. So out came the screwdriver and sharp knife, and I’ve reduced the size (slightly). If I time when the project is near completion, I will spray the bracket to match the case, and use some coloured cable sleeves and heatshrinks on the boring grey cabling.
