eSports might make a HUGE debut during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris
It looks like all eyes should be on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, as the co-president of the Paris Olympics bid committee said to the Associated Press that there are discussions on whether there should be an eSports tournament.
Tony Estanguet, co-president of France’s bid committee told the AP that the gaming community need to be heart. He said: “We have to look at it because we can’t say, ‘It’s not us. It’s not about Olympics. The youth, yes they are interested in eSport and this kind of thing. Let’s look at it. Let’s meet them. Let’s try if we can find some bridges”.
He continued: “I don’t want to say ‘no’ from the beginning. I think it’s interesting to interact with the IOC, with them, the eSports family, to better understand what the process is and why it is such a success”.
Starting in 2019, a list of events for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will form, while the official list of sports will be announced after the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Japan. Paris has yet to be named as the official host of the 2024 Games, but we should get confirmation next month.
