Cyberith Launches Full Immersion Omnidirectional Treadmill for Virtual Reality on Kickstarter

The Virtualizer Brings Vertical Motion, Haptic Feedback, and Tangle-Free Motion to VR

Oculus Rift is dominating the majority of the VR news lately and Cyberith is looking to make waves as well. If you plan to shell out the cash for the aformentioned headset, why not splurge and go for the treadmill device as well? Imagine taking all of the existing motion and move technology one step further to using your body to strafe, jump, duck and sprint to safety during one of your FPS gaming sessions. Sounds awesome to me!

Vienna, 2014-07-23 – Cyberith is bringing the highly anticipated Virtualizer to Kickstarter on July 23rd at 4 pm UTC. The Virtualizer is an advanced omnidirectional treadmill that allows users to walk, run, strafe, jump and crouch in virtual reality. Based on its third generation design, the Virtualizer is the first to offer 360 degree tangle-free rotation and a vertical free-motion ring for full freedom of movement in VR. With the announcement of the Kickstarter, Cyberith is also offering the Virtualizer HT which adds haptic feedback for the most immersive VR experience possible.

The Virtualizer marks another milestone in the development of consumer-ready virtual reality hardware. With the recent progress of head-mounted displays, there is interest in input devices that translate the user’s motions into movement in        virtual reality. Instead of using input devices like gamepads or mouse and keyboard to control your avatar, the Virtualizer allows the user to actively participate in virtual environments for increased immersion.

Cyberith is offering a design based on the third generation prototype through their Kickstarter campaign starting at $599. “We feel that the ongoing virtual reality revolution is something that has been caused solely by the enthusiasm of a strong community, so it seemed only fitting to involve them in the process of making the Virtualizer available to a broader audience. We want to give developers and early adopters the chance to experiment with the device as soon as possible.        Developers will be able to integrate and test it with their games and give us their feedback, so we can further optimize the Virtualizer,” said Tuncay Cakmak, CEO and founder of Cyberith.

With the launch of the Kickstarter campaign Cyberith is announcing a version of the Virtualizer with integrated haptic feedback called the Virtualizer HT. Users will feel immediate haptic feedback from the environment surrounding them, further increasing immersion by adding tactile sensation to the virtual reality experience.

The success of the Oculus RIFT on Kickstarter and the subsequent purchase of Oculus by Facebook and Sony’s project Morpheus this year solidified the status of virtual reality as the next innovation in human to computer interfaces.
