With 4K and HDR expected to become standard features we would expect from TVs and displays in the future, it only makes sense that Google would upgrade its Chromecast device to support that. There were rumors to suggest that a Chromecast Ultra would be announced, and it looks like it has been made official.
Chromecast Ultra will pretty much look like a regular Chromecast dongle, except that the differences will be that it will support 4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision. Google is also touting how the dongle is now 1.8x faster than the previous model, so even if you don’t have a 4K TV you should still be able to take advantage of the speed increase.
It will also come with Ethernet support for those who might prefer or need a more stable stream. Unfortunately for those who would love to get their hands on the Chromecast Ultra, gone is the price that you’ve come to expect from the Chromecast. The Ultra will be priced at $69 which is about double the regular Chromecast and will be released in November in the US and will also be available in 16 other countries.
