Performance
Now for the performance. I thoroughly tested the speaker with bass heavy songs and songs that focused more on high plucks on a guitar string. This speakers sound impressed me with the amount of bass that came out of this little ball. I was impressed when I was actually hearing and feeling the sound of this speaker. I just as much enjoyed listening to acoustic guitars through this speaker. The sound of this speaker has great range and at full volume the speaker does distort very minor though. The lights are bright and look really nice and uniform. If you look closely you see the actual location of the LED but not enough to be distracting. The multiple functions of the the type of light pattern are a nice touch. There is one that seems to respond to the Hz of the music and the pattern seems to follow the music. I say seems because at times it does not look to be exactly accurate then at other time is seems to be right on. I could not find out if the pattern was intended to be an equalizer match or not.
S400
The S406 has a nice tone to the sound. The speaker does not carry a lot of bass but does have a nice deep tone. At full volume the speaker can struggle not to distort. You can hold the speaker at the right angle and see the quarter size speakers. The speaker have a nice quality look to them. The rebound ring seems to allow for decent movement for the speakers. The portability of this speaker make the S406 appealing for many activities. The claims of the speaker be water proof are true for being splash resistant but not at all being submersed. The rubber guard is not removable as the rubber is glued in several spots. With the speaker being so small and compact, I was impressed with the sound the S406 produced.
