A Closer Look
I will have to admit I was a little excited to receive the KidzGear headphones, being I have a four year old and a two year old who are always trying to wear my headphones. The four year old, lets call her Miss K, jumped for joy when she realized that she was the one who would be testing this baby out! She had no problem being the guinea pig for this project.
KidzGear headphones with Boom Mic are made for children two years and older, and fits my daughters head nicely with little to no adjustment needed. Although, they are made for a child, I was able to adjust them to fit my larger than average adult head size. Miss K really loved the way the headphones felt around her ears, which are ergonomically designed to fit over most children ears. The half inch soft padded material KidzGear uses on the ear cups makes for a very comfortable fit.
The audio quality was a nice surprise to me. They are a little bass heavy with reasonable treble. While the headphones are not going to replace the audiophile headset, this particular headset is much better sounding then your garden variety head sets that are sold at your local retailer for much of the same price. Having the Boom Mic is very handy. The mic easily swings out of place and is flexible for easy adjustment. Picking up omnidirectional sound makes the mic great for educational purposes, skyping with friends, or even playing games. Although the mic only comes with a standard audio jack, KidzGear sells a KidzControl Volume Limit splitter cable (7.99) for use of the mic on your PC. Without this, the Boom Mic is only usable with smart phones and tablets. KidzGear headphone cable is over four ft long (1.2m). While, wearing the headset, the volume controller with mic button sits for easy access in the chest area. The volume can get up to 108 decibels, but if you are worried about your child’s ears, KidzGear Headsets comes with a KidzControl Volume Limit Cable that limit the volume between 80 db to 90 db.
