ABOX42 unveils 3rd Generation DVB-C, T/T2, S2 Hybrid Smart STBs with Advanced Software Features at IBC 2014
Karlsruhe, September 2014 – ABOX42 (www.abox42.com), a leading provider of IPTV & OTT SmartSTBs and services, will announce at IBC 2014 in Amsterdam its new line of 3rd generation Hybrid DVB receivers which combine DVB reception with full IPTV as well as OTT capabilities.
The new M-Series Hybrid SmartSTBs will be launched with three models: M15-S2 with DVB-S2 support for Satellite TV reception; M15-T2 for reception of DVB-T and DVB-T2 signals; and the M15-CO for use in DVB-C cable networks. All three models integrate advanced Internet functionalities, which combine DVB, IPTV and OTT TV services seamlessly.
The new M-Series Hybrid SmartSTBs support the new, first time launched ABOX42 OPX TV client, which provides an advanced and easy-to-use User Interface to costumers for a seamless integration of DVB and IP service delivery.
The key services of the M15-Series Hybrid STBs:
- unified channel lists for DVB and IP channels
- multi-language EPG with extended content like long descriptions, pictures and trailers
- local and network PVR and Time-Shift support
- forward and backward EPG for catch Up and Restart TV
- integration of 3rd party TV Apps like VOD portals
- support of HbbTV and Red-Button services
- operator branded & skinned user interface.
The M15-Series Hybrid STB line supports the rich ABOX42 ‘SmartSDK development environment’ for operators, system integrators, middle ware providers and developers to integrate the platform into dedicated environments.
The M15-Series Hybrid SmartSTB line includes an advanced HTML5 browser with support of multiple browser tabs and multiple layers for a seamless management of different service layers like the user interface, HbbTV / Red-Button services, menus and 3rd party applications on the same screen. Additionally ABOX42 offers a QT5 based environment with QTQuick for QML for the development of compelling high-performance animated user interfaces and applications.
The platform can easily be integrated into 3rd party middleware, multiscreen solutions and into the operators existing backend systems.
The ABOX42 SmartSDK supports a wide range of streaming formats for live and on demand content like DVB, IP Multicast, RTP, RTSP, HLS, Dash and Smooth Streaming, which can be combined within the TV application without the end user noticing. For DVB content protection the M-Series Hybrid STB line supports card-less CAS systems as well as for IP content various DRM systems like Verimatrix, PlayReady, DRM10, AES and Marlin.
