5,000 skills have been added to the Amazon Alexa platform in just the past five months, bringing its total skill count to 15,000. “Skills” for the digital assistant are essentially small pieces of software that add functionality to devices like the Echo. Amazon confirmed the new figure after it was revealed by Voicebot.
Its analysis of skills in the US found new skill introductions jumped 23% during June, whereas the growth rate had been under 10% in prior months.
When Amazon announced its 10,000 milestone in February, that figure was up 3x from September 2016. Alexa is far ahead of its competitors in terms of third-party apps.
