Xiaomi has announced the rumored Mi Band 2 and it will come with a 0.42-inch OLED screen that’s covered by scratch resistant glass and an anti-fingerprint coating for that extra layer of protection.
To add to the functionality of the tracker, Xiaomi has designed the Mi Band 2 this time around with a single physical button just below the display with allows you to scroll through different screens such as time, steps and heart rate information.
The Mi Band 2 interchangeable wrist strap is made from breathable anti-sweat material and will be available in black, green, orange and blue. The tracker itself is rated at IP67 water and dust resistant.
The Mi Band 2 keeps to optical heart rate sensor from its predecessor, the 1S, and along with improved algorithms and ultra low power accelerometers will provide improved heart rate tracking accuracy, and step tracking.
It’ll also offer sleep tracking breaking down your deep sleep and light sleep patterns. A built-in vibration motor also means the introduction of inactivity alerts, giving you buzz when you’ve been sitting too long at your desk.
With the addition of a display, the Mi Band 2 starts to blur the lines of it being an activity tracker and a smart watch. It can receive smartphone notifications, and will vibrate when there are incoming calls and texts, and it keeps the ability to unlock your Android smartphone.
The Mii Fit app has been given a makeover introducing a new-look UI, and adding more sections to drill into your data. It’ll work with Android phones running 4.4 or later and iPhones running iOS 7.0 and above.
The Mi Band 2 has a 70mAh battery that can deliver up to 20 days on standby.
It’s going on sale in China only on 7 June for RMB149.
