With F1 2018 out, Codemasters must have figured this is as good a time as any to hype up their upcoming racing game. Accordingly, they released announcement trailers for DiRT Rally 2.0 today in multiple languages, letting people know that the DiRT series is still alive and kicking. The name is similar to their own classic Colin McRae Rally 2.0 from nearly two decades ago, which surely is no coincidence. The upcoming game uses last year’s DiRT 4 as a basis, which brought procedurally generated tracks in a more general game mechanic, but Codemasters says that DiRT Rally 2.0 will pay homage also to the proven, focused formula from the original DiRT Rally.
This comes up with the appropriation of the FIA World Rallycross (WRX) Championship license, which will allow Codemasters to use eight official WRX tracks in addition to others including New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. Another possible change comes up in the development side of things, with original game director Paul Coleman having parted ways with the company earlier this year. It is far too early to pre-order in our opinion, if ever, but the option to do so is now up on Steam at the usual $59.99 price for those interested.
