Now that’s a first … a Thinkpad using AMD Ryzen Pro CPUs?
Lenovo has released a trio of new Windows 10 laptops based on new, 2nd generation AMD Ryzen PRO processors, in their famous ThinkPad form factor. There are two models that are part of the T series of ThinkPads, while one is part of X series. For reminding, the T series is the flagship line that offers the best balance between ruggedness, features, processing power, and portability in a 14 or 15-inch unit, while the X series focuses on portability.
The new ThinkPads use the second generation of AMD Ryzen PRO processors, which are 12nm improvements of the previous 14nm Ryzen Family. They carry the 3000 name branding but are similar to the 2000 series of desktop CPUs.
The three new models – T495, T495s, and X395 all promise better battery life and better display brightness which this time goes up to 400 nits, with AMD FreeSync support as well. Of course, all the standard ThinkPad features like camera cover, dual far-field microphones, and optional PrivacyGuard screen covers, are included.
Thinkpad T495 and T495s are 14-inch models, while X395 is the 13-inch model. They all have a starting price of $1089 USD which comes with Athlon Pro 300U in the basic configuration.
They pack anything from dual-core Athlon Pro 300U with Vega 3, to quad-core Ryzen R7 PRO 3700U with Vega 10. All the chips inside are within the 15W TDP which means they are quite efficient and should offer better battery life.
