Rumor of GDDR6 activley being developed by AMD
A rumor recently surfaced involving the LinkedIn page of an AMD technical engineer that listed the company working on a GDDR6 memory controller. Information is sketchy at the moment, but according to a member of Wffctech, the rumors are true. Upon looking at information through LinkedIn, there might be validity to the claims.
Samsung 16Gb GDDR6 Memory – The fastest and lowest-power DRAM for next generation, graphics-intensive applications. It processes images and video at 16Gbps with 64GB/s data I/O bandwidth, which is equivalent to transferring approximately 12 full-HD DVDs (5GB equivalent) per second. The new DRAM can operate at 1.35 volts, offering further advantages over today’s graphics memory that uses 1.5V at only 8Gbps. via Samsung
So far there is nothing else to be found on this information, but as AMD is looking to advance their technology, embracing new memory options may be the next step in competing with Nvidia. As for now, you can read the article here: https://wccftech.com/amd-gddr6-memory-upcoming-graphics-cards/
Personally, this would be great news for AMD and Nvidia, as they compete against one another. With what we know of AMD and Nvidia competing with this style of architecture, one hopes that they can manage to define competition.
