Our good friends over at HardOCP have posted a review of the ASUS ROG Rampage VI APEX Motherboard. They really like it … giving it their Gold Award. Head over there to check it out.
ASUS’ purpose built overclocking motherboard stands out as one of the most interesting and provocative motherboards the Republic of Gamers brand has probably ever seen. However, we’ve seen motherboards that opt to specialize in one area lose out in others. We put the Rampage VI APEX to the test and see if its a predator.
The ASUS ROG Rampage VI APEX motherboard is a halo product built and designed for overclocking. The fact is that most of use will never use the plethora of high end LN2 features on this motherboard should you purchase one. However, even if you are wanting to push a “real” Skylake-X processor to the edge of what is possible in terms of clocks, the APEX is your motherboard. The myriad of BIOS settings goes deeper than any motherboard we have seen in recent years, if you are skilled enough to use those. However, as Dan showed, using a lesser-core Kaby Lake-X is not the most inviting CPU for the APEX, not that you would ever likely put one in its socket. The APEX cost a whopping $430, but if you are up to using all its overclocking features, the price for this halo product does not seem that high. Us mere mortals need not apply.
