Now this is interesting. Our good friends over at HardOCP have published an article re-testing the Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000W PSU after 10 Years. Head over there to check it out.
Doing computer PSU reviews for over a decade, and keeping full documentation on those, gives us ability to do something that whets computer PSU enthusiasts’ appetites. We get to take some of those PSUs that have been in service for 10 years and retest those. Cooler Master is back on the load bank! How does it look after a decade of service?
…..
After today, I don’t think I would change anything about that in general. That said, I feel like there may be some nuance there that I missed last time since this unit is a bit different. And that is this. While I honestly, even though the length of time between re-reviews has differed, feel that the Olympia 1000W was a better quality unit than this one (and the better buy as just a power supply)…..as a combo this unit plus that Stacker did make for an AMAZING value at the time. Hell, it lasted 10 years! That makes it an AMAZING value still today. I mean, I used the same case and same power supply for 10 years which means the amortized cost was $35 a year for not just decent quality gear, but top end gear for the time. I’m not sure how you can do much better than that in the real enthusiast realm. So, yes. I still say buy the best quality power supply you can buy. However, when you are building a system if a unit that is in the upper 90% of power supplies comes along coupled with a case that is in the upper 90% of cases (for its time) as well on a killer deal like this pair did, well then, BUY THAT. So, yeah, the bottom line is exactly that, everything is relative and if someone were to offer you a combo with a unit like any of the [H]ardOCP Gold Award winning power supply plus a [H]ardOCP Gold Award winning case for the price of the power supply plus $50….buy it!
