Bold plans and a very bold statement from Intel … especially when thet haven’t even sold any retail GPUs yet!
Taken from Videocardz … Raja Koduri has responded PC Gamer’s open letter to Intel asking the company to find the solution to the ongoing GPU pricing problem. The ‘nightmares GPU crisis’ mentioned by PC Gamer has turned the graphics market upside down and has been a headache to gamers no longer being able to find a GPU at a reasonable price. The component and substrate shortages, increasing cryptocurrency value, and millions of people now working from home have all contributed to the biggest GPU shortage in years.
Now, more than a year since the problem emerged, the graphics cards are actually available, but still at absurd prices. However, this pricing is supposedly slowly declining while cryptocurrencies are facing a massive drop in value. This in addition to the upcoming Ethereum switch to proof of stake and NVIDIA & AMD releasing new entry-level GPUs can finally provide some hope for normality.
Meanwhile, the upcoming third player in the GPU game, Intel, has been suspiciously quiet about its Arc discrete GPUs. The company has not provided any new information at CES 2022 but the Q1 2022 availability claim has been reaffirmed. Unfortunately, Intel did not however confirm when gamers will be able to actually buy desktop Arc GPUs.
The plans are big though, as Raja Koduri (Intel SVP, GM Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group) is looking for a solution to ship millions of Arc GPU to gamers every year, as he said in a tweet responding to the PC Gamer story:
I am with you, @pcgamer. This is a huge issue for PC gamers and the industry at large. @IntelGraphics is working hard to find a path towards the mission – getting millions of Arc GPUs into the hands of PC gamers every year https://t.co/bknQOvUMti
