NVIDIA Delays Launch of GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and RTX 3080 12GB

I guess there’s no need to launch the refreshed GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB or the GeForce RTX 3080 12GB just yet. Well, not until AMD launches their next line of RDNA3 graphics card.

Taken from Igor’s Lab … As if the news from the graphics card sector wasn’t already bad enough and the market is empty as it rarely is, according to several of my own sources, the official announcement of these models, which was rumored for Dec. 17, 2021, is also to be dropped. According to the manufacturers, only the presentation of the new consumer top model GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, which is planned for CES, is still on the agenda, the rest has obviously been put on hold for the time being. The reasons for this are probably also to be found in the strained situation of the board partners or contract manufacturers, who are said to be suffering extremely from the lack of availability of important components.

But what exactly does that mean for us end customers? If I can trust my sources (and I do), the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti board partner graphics cards will be available only just before Chinese New Year (CNY), with volume and price currently still up in the air. Consensus has also been that the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB has likely been pushed to a time period well after CNY. Again, lack of parts is said to be the reason.

On the other hand, the postponement of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB is not without an interesting aftertaste and also offers reason for further speculation. This is because it is the only card from the planned portfolio that is directly related to Intel’s market entry. While one source here justifies NVIDIA’s hesitation by saying that Team Green probably wants to wait with the final specifications until Team Blue has put their cards on the table to counter them, there are other considerations as well.
