What the Hell is a PCI Slot Doing on Z270 Motherboard?

It’s 2017 and Intel have just launched their Z270 chipset and Kaby Lake processors … yet oddly are we still seeing PCI slots on some Z270 motherboards … Why?!

This one is the Gigabyte GA-Z270M D3H motherboard …

I actually think this is great as I have some really good (now legacy) soundcards I could use…

Hint: it could be 2050 and I might still very well be using my X-Fi Platinum PCI sound card.

I have a £3000 sound card that is PCI. So glad there are new motherboards with PCI slots. Have you seen any others?

Two PCI slots? WONDERFUL!!! My good ol’ HDTV tuner card w/display driver card might have a new home in a new media system soon! Thanks for mentioning this. It is hard to find a parametric chart of all features of all motherboards ever made. Oh, and thank you Google (“PCI slots” motherboard).

Every audio workstation using an RME HDSP card needs a PCI slot

I still use a legacy Asus Xonar PCI audio card. Its an amazing card and I love the headphone amp which I use with my Denon D5000s. Spending 200-300 on a new audio card seems like such a waste when its not really an upgrade. That being said I really do want a mobo with dual gigabit ethernet and there are definitely no boards with PCI and dula gigabit. 🙁
