Earlier today, Google announced the official rollout of Android Oreo 8.1. Actually, the information came as the company was announcing the presence of Android Oreo (Go Edition) which is a custom edition for low-end Android devices.

WE’RE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THIS SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE—ANDROID OREO (GO EDITION)—IS READY, AND LAUNCHING AS A PART OF THE ANDROID 8.1 RELEASE TOMORROW.

At the moment, there is no official changelog of the update but from the Developer Previews, Android Oreo 8.1 would probably come with some the following changes.

  • Neural Networks API – Latency will be reduced since apps will be able to benefit from hardware acceleration
  • Pixel Visual Core – third-party developers will now have access to Google’s first custom-designed co-processor for machine learning and image processing
  • Safe browsing – WebView attempts will be detected by apps
  • One notification alert per second for apps
  • Bluetooth battery indicator in Quick Settings
  • Improvement of fingerprint sensor security
  • Display tab will have color menu
  • Other fixes for Nexus and Pixel smartphones
This update will probably arrive Pixel and Nexus users first and subsequently, it is expected that other Oreo powered smartphones will receive this update.
