According to industry sources, LG Electronics has completed the development of a smartphone that supports magnetic resonance based wireless charging at a distance of up to 7 cm and is currently mulling over when to release it in the market.
The magnetic resonance-based wireless charging technique is expected to be applied to the LG Pay Smart Card as well, which takes the form of a portable electronic device and is scheduled to be launched before the end of this year.
Unlike magnetic induction wireless charging, magnetic resonance wireless charging allows a device to be charged even when it is away from a charger. Recently, some companies succeeded in extending the distance from a couple of centimeters to 7 cm and the charging efficiency has been improved to reach approximately 7 W.
Chinese manufacturers are working on wireless smartphone charging technology as well by making use of their partnership with members of the AirFuel Alliance. At present, Huawei, Oppo, Meizu and many more are working with wireless charging solution developers and semiconductor firms at home and abroad. Their smartphones supporting magnetic resonance wireless charging are predicted to hit the market in quantity from next year
