The long-anticipated Ubuntu Touch 12th Over-the-Air (OTA-12) software update has been launched with biometric authentication, also known as a fingerprint reader, for the Meizu PRO 5. This update for Ubuntu mobile operating system starts appearing as a phased update at 12 P.M. UTC/GMT on July 27.
According to Softpedia, Lukasz Zemczak from Canonical Foundations confirmed the Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu update in an email announcement to Ubuntu Touch subscribers. He revealed that the OTA-12 just passed the final phase of testing.
Besides the biometric authentication, the Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu edition smartphone will get bug fixes, new features, and complete Media Player Remote Interface Specification (MPRIS) support for playlists, Slash Gear reported. The update also comes with a new Libertine Scope for devices, animated mouse cursors, and Messaging app support for forwarding messages. The installed X apps are now displayed with on-screen keyboard support. Windows can be maximized both horizontally and vertically.
The Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Touch OTA-12 update also features the version 1.15 of Oxide video player. Its web browser has zoom support, a displayed hovered hyperlink URL, consistent page headers across its user interface, and improvements on touch selection.
