Conclusion and Verdict
In, conclusion the price is fair for a compact 7 port dock. Generally, these types of devices are anywhere from 90- to several hundred dollars. So I am not going to knock the price. The only downside is you have to have your own power supply that connects via USB-C. This isn’t a big deal because you can find phone chargers that are 45W all day long. Another thing to note is that is not going to have a an ethernet port. If you always use Wi-Fi then this wont effect you but if you rely on a hardwire then you are going to have to plug that into your laptop. This isn’t huge but some laptops are omitting the ethernet port and going with a USB adapter for the ethernet jack. Just another thing to carrying around along with this if your laptop doesn’t have an ethernet connection. Most monitors are sure to have HDMI so not having a display port is no big deal. I am not 100% positive but I believe these are HDMI 2.0 ports. It was not listed in the specifications.
The Transfer speeds on the Type-A ports almost irrelevant because those two ports are likely to be tied up with a keyboard and mouse at all times. But I went ahead and tested those and saw speeds that maxed out the capabilities of my USB drive. To achieve up to 10Gb/s transfer speeds, your USB host connection, cables, and device must all support USB 3.1. That is a huge window for transfer speeds your USB is likely going to be the bottleneck in this situation not your dock. Then you can hook up an external hard drive to the USB-C connection and have plenty of bandwidth to move files with ease. This is with a Gigabyte Vision 1TB external Drive.
