Verdict and Conclusion
With no menu options and no configuration to set on the iPhone 4, streaming video content to a large screen TV was easy as pie. Needless to say, you can also stream audio and music, just switch the the iPod/Music play one and you’re good to go. I was able to have a good streaming connection within a distance of about 5 metres, not bad considering. One things which makes the AirMedia really shine … is that you don’t need any internet or wifi connection for it to work.
This obiously means you can’t watch Youtube, Netflix and any online steaming channels. In the other words, you can’t really compare it to an Apple TV … The AirMedia isn’t a direct competitor, but rather it’s an alternative solution for iPhone 4 users who want to share their media (due the iPhone 4’s lack of AirPlay support).
The AirMedia and MediaPad unit is not a standalone device … it does not give you menu options on the TV nor are there any apps you can download to control it. The AirMedia is just a way of streaming your media on your iPhone 4 … whether it’s Videos or Music without having to have an internet/wifi connection. It does NOT do any “mirroring” and it only works on an iPhone 4 (or 4S).
So with that it mind, I think the iCirround has made a good attempt in trying to mimmick what Apple has done with their Airplay.
Pros:
- Supports iPhone 4/4S
- No internet or wifi connection needed
- 5 meters range
- Stream media/muisc/videos to any large screen TV via HDMI
Cons:
- MediaPad needs charging and it’s a little bulky
- No menu options and no apps
Final words.
All-in-all, the AirMedia is a decent device that’s worth considering if you’re still using an iPhone 4 (or 4S). It allows you to share and output your media, videos and music wirelessly without the need for an internet or wifi connection.
