iPin Mobile Laser Presenter Review

Installation

Installation is extremely easy and the iPin app also gives you step by step instructions as we will see later in the review. Today we will be using the iPhone 5 to test the iPin Laser. To begin installation we will remove the iPin from its storage case and simply insert it into the headphone jack of our iphone, preferably with the little nub running parallel with the width of the phone.

We then push the device entirely into the phone until an audible click is heard. I will note here that when the nub is in this position the iPin Laser is deactivated. This position allows the user to make and take phone calls without removing the device, a very thoughtful feature indeed!

I will note here that when the nub is in this position perpendicular to the width of the phone the iPin Laser can be activated. Easiest. Installation. Ever.

Here we can see the simplicity and utility of the included headphone cable storage clip. This is a great idea when you are on the go and yet still need quick access to your laser presenter. Let us now take a look at the software!

Software, Part I

To utilize the iPin Laser we must first visit the Apple iTunes Store and download the iPin app. Once downloaded simply launch the app. Upon launching the app we are asked if we would like to register as shown in the below screen capture. After registration, a caution screen is shown to remind you that while lasers are really cool one should proceed responsibly and with caution.

Then next screen gives a set of instructions to the user regarding installation and activation of the device. Once the laser presenter is activated simply tap the “yes” button on the screen.

After a neat little animation plays on the next screen you will be able to activate the laser by pressing and holding the button on the screen. The laser will stay activated until you depress the button which is very wise so that one will not accidently burn another person’s retinas. I will note here that at the bottom left of the screen a timer is displayed. We will visit this feature shortly.

Per information printed in the Quick Guide, we can drag the bottom of the screen upwards to discover the Track Pad screen which gives the user remote control over a host computer running the presentation software. The timer is also displayed on this screen as well. Also located at the bottom of this screen are icons having various functions. The first “arrow” icon connects the iPhone to the host computer via WiFi for mouse control during a presentation. The second “play” icon can be utilized to start and stop a presentation. The third “screen” icon is used to black-out the presentation screen. The fourth “clock” icon is utilized to reset the timer. The fifth and final icon allows the user to access timer or configure gesture settings.
