Conclusion and Verdict
So, we have tested and seen every corner of the monitor by now. What are the things to look for in a monitor? I am glad you asked. I consider the following an absolute necessity when it comes to what a monitor offers. First, you will be hard-pressed to find a monitor lower than 1080p but be careful they are out there, and you may think it’s too good of a deal to pass but if you have a monitor not capable of at least 1080p you will be disappointed for sure. Next, the refresh rate. This one ties to your graphics more than any other spec. For example, if you have a 60Hz max refresh and want to fully utilize that framerate then be sure your graphics card is powerful enough. This can be applied to another refresh rate like 144Hz. You can always run a 144Hz at 60Hz if you wanted. But I would consider 60Hz to be the minimum spec you would want. The higher the better! Next, response time. This can be debated depending on panel type. But if it doesn’t have a 5ms or less don’t even touch it. Next, panel type. Anything but TN. I like both IPS and VA. Even prefer a VA panel in most cases. OLED is right around the corner. But I can’t get behind something that can be ruined by burn-in. No thanks. Now for a recap. Must have at least 1080p, 60Hz, 5ms, any panel type but TN. If you can find these minimum specs the monitor will have a decent gaming experience.
Let’s expand on this and show what you want if you want the best you can get. One thing that isn’t necessary but nice to have is a size no smaller than 27″, Adaptive sync, curved panel, 100% color gamut, HDR, swivel stand, a resolution of 1440p. If a monitor has these specs, it’s going to be one the better monitors you will find.
There are speakers on this model which you may never finding any use for them. I like having speakers built in even if I don’t plan on ever really using them. There may be a time when I don’t have a headset or external speakers around. So having something built in is a plus.
Now that we have covered everything how does this monitor stack up? Well, you have seen what I consider bare minimum and the other stuff that makes it even better. The GM27-CFX out paces some of my recommendations by a lot. Just to highlight the .5ms response and 240Hz refresh. You may think the 240Hz will be hard to maintain but this is at 1080p. Which is still perfectly fine for gaming. Actually, preferred by the pros due to graphics cards being able to maintain higher refresh rates. If you have anything 3060Ti or more powerful you should be able to utilize the full framerate. The panel is VA which will provide deeper colors. There wasn’t one thing left off the list when it comes to this monitor. I had a great time testing and playing games on this monitor.
